From the Brewsta Million music archives, we're revisiting HighLifeGully's Holy Smoke mixtape. Originally featured on Brewsta Million in June 2012, the project represents some of the independent music the site was documenting during its early years.

More than a decade after the original post, Holy Smoke remains part of Brewsta Million's early music archive. Instead of removing these older releases because they're no longer new, we're preserving them as a record of the artists, mixtapes and music that appeared on the site at the time.

From a New Release to an Archive
Mixtapes were a major part of hip-hop discovery during this period. Blogs gave independent artists another place to introduce projects, videos and new records to listeners outside of traditional radio and major music outlets.
Today, those original posts also provide a snapshot of the independent music scene Brewsta Million was covering in the early 2010s.

HighLifeGully appears in other Brewsta Million archive material as well, making Holy Smoke part of a larger history preserved on the site rather than a standalone release.
As Brewsta Million's older catalog is restored, we're keeping worthwhile independent releases while adding new editorial context around the original music and artwork.
